The following question –– taken from the RMAX Forum  –– is one that we frequently receive in one guise or another.  How can I add pulling movements to BER?

I would like to add some pullups and possibly some deadlifts using bands (so they won't be heavy). I was thinking of using one of the strength protocols from the other cycles, possibly the Moderate day of the Strength cycle, and modifying it to use pullups and/or deadlifts instead of the described exercises. Or just using the initial strength protocols in the Fat Loss cycle and adding in the pullups.

Am I looking for trouble? This doesn't seem to be a case of "cocktailing" or am I mistaken?

I understand that BER is a whole body approach and all the given exercises will likely do the job for whatever I want. But I have a specific desire to work pullups and the band DL may be beneficial for my back.

This question is from a BER user who has already been through two 28-day cycles from the book.  He has a handle on what the 4×7 formula is giving him and how all the pieces of the puzzle fit together. Otherwise, my advice would be to just stick with the program as written.

But in this particular case –– modifying the Fat Loss program –– I would sub in the deadlifts for the second exercise in Circuit A and I would add the pull ups after the third exercise.  Use the same protocol as indicated for the rest of the circuit.
