Okay, yesterday was supposed to be my high intensity/hybrid session day.  I usually manage my workouts in the morning, but yesterday I was at my children's school volunteering, then straight to the train station to pick up my mom and then back home for a quick cup of tea, and then off to my own classes in the evening.  At 6:30, after finishing a three hour class, I was driving home and wondering how I could ever fit in a workout before getting three kids to bed and homework managed, etc.

I walked into my house at about 7 pm and my 13 year old son decided to attack me in the manner of Cato (think Peter Seller's Pink Panther movies).  Out of nowhere I was in a "I see your aikido and raise you a world wrestling federation" knock-down-drag-out with my son.  I was picking him up and "slamming" him onto the couch, getting "attacked" from behind, and all out crazy pillow fighting.  The other kids were quick to establish an order of rotation and set the timer for 10 minute rounds.

This is where the importance of training to live made a huge difference. Typically I would have panicked with the thought that for everyone to get in on the fun meant 10 minutes each for them, but 30 minutes straight for me, quickly cutting back on the fun to save my body.  But life isn't typical anymore.  Thanks to the bodyweight training I have been using for the last month or so my endurance and strength were supporting our playful melee.  I noticed myself working more efficiently and using better body mechanics.  I easily bested my teen sons, although they are pre-growth spurt so I'm not sure how much longer that will last, and was able to delight my daughter with tickles and giggles while tossing her over my shoulder.  We all had a blast!

So yesterday was my Bonus Workout.  I'll call it the "Kid Krazy Workout".  The RPE was 7, the RPT was 9, the RPD was 1 and the RPP (rate of perceived playfulness) was a resounding 10!

Heidi,

Thanks so much for sharing that story! Cool

Those moments are the most powerful and important reasons to invest in our health and fitness. It would be sad to have to pass those up…

Three of them, eh? I have trouble with one 5 year old…  Smile

Cheers,

Adam
